December Newsletter
NO. 29 | December 2023
Hello and hello! December! Every month seems so freshly beautiful right now. Being in a new part of the country means enjoying more than opaque gray skies for half the year, and that is already pretty cool. There have been quick and dramatic shifts between sun, clouds, rain, hail, and wind. The sun keeps pushing back out.
I went back to read the 2023 goals I set at the beginning of this year, and was pleasantly surprised to find that I lived much of this year in alignment with them. I honestly couldn’t really remember what they were, but they were internalized, and matched up with the decisions and desires I naturally pursued.
And, we have another month left. 2023 is not over. Though we all know its not likely we’ll find too much quiet and chill in the holiday season, we can strive for the beginnings of hibernation. We can look for moments when the early darkness eases us into more rest. We can appreciate the home we get to snuggle into. We can stay in tune with the rhythms of a new season. When we next talk, I’ll be serving up something a little different. Until then, the blog post gives a peek at some reflection on the year.
Consider: 5 Things
A reflection on some objects that meant something to me this year.

I finally got back into some sewing this month, though it looks a little different—no garments yet (don’t worry; I have a pants project cut out)! I have now completed 12/42 blocks for my bed quilt, and I sewed these tablecloths and napkins to host family (with a tutorial, if that suits you)! Otherwise, I have really been enjoying the outdoors at the state park 10 minutes from our house.

I can’t believe I haven’t featured Jamie Green here before. They’re one of my favorite illustrators, and I think I take for granted that I’ll always get to see something lovely, funny, or cute when they post. Primarily they illustrate for books, so check out their titles if you want to support them.
☆ The Farmer’s Daughter Bakes is by far my favorite cookbook right now. Every dessert I’ve made from it (now 6 or 7?) has been stunning!! Delicious!! Impeccable!!
☆ I enjoyed this list of 2023 unconventional picture books. Definitely going to pick up some of these titles!
☆ This yardage calculator was very helpful in planning my tablecloths.
☆ A nice summary about the work of Patricia Polacco.
☆ A gorgeous dessert that didn’t quite make my Thanksgiving menu.
