December Newsletter
NO 17. | December 2022
Hello!
Welcome to the final 2022 newsletter. You’ll have to forgive me for keeping this newsletter a little bit shorter than normal; I’m dedicating most of my words to the blog post this month (see below). I’m also feeling quite busy with life things (as opposed to art things), so I’ve gotta keep enough gas in the tank to keep running until the new year.
Speaking of the blog post, it’s tradition for me to write a yearly reflection on myself + the things I enjoyed reading, watching, or listening to. I spend most of the time on this blog reflecting on making creative work, and this is one of the only times that I instead celebrate finished work. This year, I also have included a reflection on art/making/creativity in my own life, and favorite sources of making knowledge/joy/inspiration that kept me moving this year, which was new to this format.
All the normal newsletter stuff is here, too. Thanks for reading—this is continually my favorite place to show up online.
Until next year!
Consider: 2022 in Review
All about the stuff I loved reading, watching, & listening to in 2022. As tradition mandates, presented with a self portrait.
Stacey Thomas is a down-right inspiring illustrator. Her control of gouache, mastery of color, and unexpected compositions awe me regularly. I highly recommend just perusing her website, or her instagram. She has a couple of books out if you want to support her, and I pray to the illustration gods that she’ll sell prints one day.

I have a lot of projects in their middle stages right now. I have been building them up piece by piece for weeks, and finally, they are approaching their finished states as we approach the end of the year. That’s exciting. I’m getting better at letting things take all the time they need.
First, a fabric design project that I’ll be sharing in its entirety in December! I drew these fabric patterns (plus one more), and I can’t wait to send them out into the world and show you what I made with them. I love rainbow checks.
Then, as I’m writing this, my largest ceramic batch ever (about 30 pieces) is baking in a cozy 1900º degree bisque kiln. I can’t wait to glaze these pieces and update the shop in early 2023. I am a very small batch potter, so it’s a treat when I get to offer pieces for sale (~approximately once a year lol).
☆ I am excited for the 2023 blog! I have ideas for writing about creative organization and time management, jack-of-all-trades/serial maker lifestyle, fear and art, time and art. BUT, I also want to know what you like reading about. If there is anything you want to see a blog post about, please let me know in the comments or in a reply!
☆ P.S. I decided not to include kid lit in my 2022 review this year, primarily because there was too much to cover. But! If you want to talk about illustrated work or reading for young people, I’m always around for a chat.
☆ Read this paragraph from bell hooks
☆ Glee deep cut (I’m in love with this video)
☆ Sometimes I watch silly little movie youtube videos
